Berlin Day 5

Well.. here we are still in Berlin - we have been seeing the city sights ~ so much to see ~ since the last installment, we have been busy...we marched with about 100 000 other people for CSD - which is similar to the Sydney Mardi Gras - it was huge.

I have just worked out how to put the photos up!!! it's a miracle - you have no idea how hard it is to use a computer when all of the instructions are in a foreign language!!

We have been doing alot of walking - which is absolutely essential when the food is so good - we are walking our meals off during the day, so we can eat delicious meals during the day - bratwurst, cakes, and of course so many different beers to sample ! We have been dining out every night. People take their dogs absolutely everywhere here - even out at night to restaurants - the dogs behave themselves better than some humans i know!

What else - sue and I went guitar shopping this morning and picked up a beautiful new guitar with case - the price was good and it sounds fabulous!

We are here until Friday this week, and hope to go on a bike tour around the city, the whole city is flat so there are people on bikes everywhere - they have a special lane for the cyclists on the footpath - i have nearly been run down on several occasions!

My German is improving - i am capable of going up to the bar to order beer - another absolute necessity when in Berlin... you must know how to order the beveridges.... Svie beir bitte? (2 beers please!)
well, we are off to the Keisers, the zupermarkt, to get some supplies!

til next time...

Finally

Gluten tag! Well, we have made it finally to an internet cafe! No photos from here yet - we have taken plenty.
We got here on Wednesday - and since then have done lots of tourist types of things - Sachsenhausen Concentration Camp - it was about one hours train ride outside Berlin - it wasn't as confronting as we thought it would be - apparently many of the gruesome photos were removed from the museum sites - however there were still plenty of things to make you think about life - and how horrible it must have been to belong to a minority group at this time! yikes! so to counteract the horror of the camp we met up with friends and enjoyed a few icey cold ales and some Indian Food for dinner! Being summer here, it stays light til around 10pm! People are out and about all the time - they are all very friendly and don't mind us bumbling Aussies speaking in broken German... well, that's me - sue can speak the language quite confidently! I've got to say that the public transport system here is fabulous! Trains every 10 minutes and buses running constantly .. so easy to get around!
Today, we made our way into the city and have seen other war time memorials like The Brandenburg Gate and Check Point Charlie as well as the remains of the Berlin Wall - great history - there are fantastic monuments everywhere - it is actually fabulous to be sitting down - my feet are killing me.....
tomorrow we are going to a festival called Christopher Street Day - so more soicializing with the Berliners - the food here is fab - particularly bakery items - yummy...
Til the next installment - auf Weiderzein

Lets get this party started

Sue and I are about to embark on our adventure - it's getting pretty exciting as we leave the comfort of our little esk home in exactly one week! Our first stop is Carlas house in Brisbane then it's off to the airport the following afternoon where we jet out to Berlin, via Singapore and London. So, hopefully there will be plenty of opportunities to put some photos [of ourselves of course] up so you too can see what a fabulous time we are having!! yipee...
